Hibernation.

I’ve spent the better part of the last week sort of in mental state of hibernation. I’ve been working, then going home. Then back to work and so on. It’s sort of been an uncomfortable blind routine. It hasn’t been to the point of what I define as a ‘rut’, but a slump for sure. It’s not something that happens to me very often. It seems to come when I’m not working hard enough.

I’ve had no events since our Christmas trip, so life sort of feels dull… that might be the start of it. But I do have events coming up so my mind has a place it could go. There’s some neat creative things to keep me busy, but not a lot. They are big events, but nothing that I would consider terribly flashy or difficult to produce. I’m guessing that when I’m back into my routine of back-to-back gigs I’ll feel a little more at home.

The hardest part about this little slump has been the timing, or rather the coincidental timing of the same sort of slump (though I can’t speak for her) in Janey’s life. Usually when one of us hits an obstacle, the other is quite good at becoming the support system to make it through. Some times that works better then others, but overall it’s been a great deal. Neither of us have immediate family close, so we are really each other’s family down here in CA. Anyway, it just usually seems like when there’s a bit of a down time in one of our lives, the other is there with a supporting hand. It’s really nice. But what happens when both supporters need help at once? Tension.

Here is my theory…

Both have the desire to help AND be helped at the same time. The rub is that when you’re speaking about matters of emotion and mental state, a person who is seeking any sort of a crutch can’t be expected to be a solid support for someone with the same problem. If there was ever a time for the phrase “blind leading the blind” that would be it!

Now reigning this all into real life, how does this pertain to me? It’s all about how life is feeling. You know when things just feel off/disconnected/strange but you can’t explain exactly why? I know most people feel it. It’s when there is a thousand symptoms of life problems on the tip of your brain ready to be unleashed on the next person to ask how your doing, but none of them seem to be the real root of what’s bugging you. If you fixed any one of them all the others would still exist, and in most cases more would pop up. Well folks, the reality is that when this happens there is almost always one root cause for the entire mess. There is one doosie of a something that is lodging itself somewhere up in that noggin of yours, and it’s just spending it’s time pissing everyone around it off.

When life feels good it’s hard to imagine anything could bring you down. And if you forced yourself to think about it you’d be sure that you could handle it. I know that’s how I think. When life feels good I’m quite certain that my level head would win out in a game against my emotions. But when push comes to shove the logical brain heads for the back seat to buckle up and there can be some nasty business ahead. Don’t get me wrong… I wouldn’t say that I’m ruled by my emotions. I would, however, say that my logical side loosens the leash a bit.

In the end I think it comes down to self. Even if you have a good crutch. Even if there are people around you that would love to take your burdens. Even though you’d like to let them bear your burdens… it all comes down to self. If you can’t do the hard work and get out of that rut yourself, you can’t hope to be a good supporter of someone else.

So what’s the point of all this? Nothing. It’s my blog and I’ll write what I want. I don’t have a solution, I just have love. I’m happy with my life an the people in it. I want them to be happy have the same love for me. Now I’m getting out of my rut to go give my girlfriend a kiss. (and maybe some flowers)

Too Cool…

So I’ve spent most of my time since this last wonderful christmas geeking out about my new video ipod. I love it and I watch stuff on it all the time. It’s a wonderful tool for procrastination at my desk.

Being so distracted by my wonderful new toy, I almost forgot that today was the opening day of MacWorld (it’s the big trade show for apple people, and it’s where Steve Jobs always launches the cool new apple stuff).

So I hopped online to find they they’ve release some seriously cool new toys. Among them is a new intel based laptop. The new line is dubbed ‘MacBook’. It just makes me feel like my powerbook is totally yesterdays news. Ahh well. I guess I’ll just have to be content drooling over the sweetness of the marketing copy.

Really…. really. You gotta love this hardware. Click here for more cool appleness.

Back to the ‘ol grindstone

We’re 4 days into 2006 and I still haven’t said Happy New Year to my three faithful readers!  Please forgive me, and I hope you will continue to visit and read my ramblings throughout this wonderful year.

2005 was incredibly eventful for me.  I did lots of cool things and met a lot of cool people. Some for work, some not.  Work itself has been pretty amazing.  Producing events for a wonderful company is a dream come true, and the thought that I’ve been doing it for more then a year now really astounds me.  It’s bitter-sweet though.  Through my move into new adventures I’ve had to pass on some of the old adventures that I loved so much.  The Candlelight processional came and went, Rose Parade bands all shuffled through the park without me, even Santa Clause returned to the north pole before I could go out and say hello.  Oh well…  I suppose it was all meant to be.

So lets get back up to speed.  When Janey and returned from Utah we realized we hadn’t made any plans at all for New Years Eve.  I had just assumed I would be working, but as it turned out I wasn’t needed.  So Janey accepted an invitation to go over to her cousin’s house where some other family and friends were gathering.

It was a nice little get together, though Janey and I are both certain that we would throw a much better party.  I’m sure someday in the future we will live together in a big enough place to throw a party. 🙂

So I guess that really brings us up to now…  the only other big event that I can think of coming up is the birthday of my wonderful girlfriend!  She was born on Jan. 5th…  That’s right, tomorrow is my girl’s birthday.  We’re planning on celebrating a little later this year (next week).  She’s been wanting to go down to some pier where you choose your own fish from the market and they cook it.  I’m not even sure where it is… but it’s her day and her celebrations, so I’ll make it happen.

So that’s about it for now.  Thanks for reading.  And I’ll be back soon.

Back from vacation

Well I’m sitting at my desk on the first morning back from my wonderful Christmas vacation (yes, that’s Christmas vacation, not Holiday vacation. You know, the one where Jesus is born, wise men come, and shepherds watch their fields…). I’m in that hour of uselessness between when you sit down at your desk and when you actually do start working. I’ve read several emails and responded to a few. I cleaned up a stack of papers that had been spread across my keyboard while I was gone. And that’s about the extent of my usefulness, so I decided to blog.

Janey and I had such a wonderful trip up to Utah to see my family. We had a great time playing with the kids and just catching up with everyone. The Christmas presents were wonderful (and I do mean wonderful) but for me they were nowhere near as pleasing as just being able to sit around and spend time with my family. I somehow don’t realize how much I miss them when I’m down here. And as time between visits seems to grow I forget how much fun it can be to just sit around at the end of the day and chat about whatever comes to mind. Most of the time we end up on the subject of the kids latest antics… they’re funny.

Janey has been a very good blogger and already got 13 pages of photos up in our photo album. I have got enough to add about another 13 and I don’t think Janey is finished. We’ll have lots of great photos!

So what did we do…
(here’s the short version)

  • Bought 3 lift passes to Snowbasin and lost them
  • Bought 3 more lift passes at the gate to replace the lost ones
  • Spent a wonderful day skiing at Snowbasin
  • Taught Braden to ski (he is totally fearless)
  • Pulled every muscle in my legs
  • Had my car painted (thank you dad!)
  • Made my mom cry (the good kind)
  • Stressed the cat out with all the travel and kids
  • Had the best Christmas in memory

More to come on the subject… I just think I should do some work for Disney since they’re paying for the time 🙂

rushin, trav’lin, and presents

I don’t have too much time to post but I wanted to update my 3 faithful readers.

  • Janey and I are making a trip to Utah for Christmas. I’m very excited to visit.
  • We’ve decided to take the cat along with us… This could be interesting
  • Janey and I got really really anxious to give each other presents… so we did. We exchanged christmas presents 12 days before christmas.

And I’d like to tell you about the wonderful wonderful gifts Janey got for me. So perfect, she knows me so well.

It’s an incredible vintage looking Disneyland dining set with service for 4. I’ve been wanting this set since it hit the shelves but could never convince myself to get it. They look so awesome.

Here is some shots:

There’s also some great soda glasses, water glasses, bowls, tivets, and a spoon rest 🙂 just fantastic!

Christmas Lights

I really enjoy christmas decorations. That may come as a surprise to those of you who know that I don’t decorate my own apartment, but it’s true.

While surfing around online today I found the tackiest display of christmas cheer I think I ever have. It’s super cool and very entertaining. Make sure you have your sound turned up when you press play.

To the jack off who stole our bikes,

Well… what’s the story here. Are you really dumb, or just a jerk? First you make off with my girlfriend’s bike that was being stored on my patio. Then you waited a week or so, and stole the other bike that just happened to be on the same patio.

If you needed two bikes, why didn’t you just take them both at once? Better yet, if you needed two bikes why didn’t you just go to Wal-Mart and buy them… thats what I did.
